A well designed transit map conveys a lot of information in a very small space. In an instant, we learn how to get from “A” to “B”, simply by following some coloured lines. The very best maps become symbols of their city, admired and loved by all.

While the London Underground diagram-style is the most common type, the transit map takes on many different guises. I’ll be posting reviews of transit maps from all around the world: be they real or imaginary, from the past, present or future, and stating what I like and don’t like about them, giving each map my own, totally subjective rating.

Where possible, I’ll try to provide a link back to the original source – be it transit agency or fantasy map creator. And you can normally click the image for a higher resolution version.

This site is run and curated by Cameron Booth, a graphic designer originally from Sydney, Australia, now residing in Portland, Oregon. I design my own transit maps for fun, including a popular reworking of the Washington, DC Metro map, and maps of the US Interstate, US Highway and Amtrak Passenger Rail systems in the style of a transit map. High-quality prints of my maps are for sale in my online store.

I definitely encourage people to fave posts and leave comments — the amazing community that has built up around this blog is definitely one of the best things about it, and many readers know far more than I do about their local transit system.
