Submitted by Lucien, who says: Beside being inspired by the various radial metro maps featured here over the years, the idea of doing a radial map for Taipei’s metro systems came from the then under construction Circular Line and the city’s overall geography. The Taiwanese capital is situated in a basin with rivers flowing in from the surrounding mountains, so it is conceivable to represent the area in a radial manner, even though the city […]

Submitted by Memphis, who says: This is a redesign project of the Taipei Metro Map with aims to enhance the legibility. I first tried to make something like this three years ago, when I was a college student. Back then, to pursue an excellent looking, I gave up a lot of detailed information and lower the font size, the result looks cool but yet not practical (the older version). I’m not even going to pretend that I understand what the colour-coded gophers are for, but they sure are cute! Source: ailb/Flickr – link no longer active

The most notable change is the introduction of a numbering system. Transit Maps says: I reviewed the Taipei MRT map way back in November 2011, so it’s definitely time to take another look at it. It’s not entirely true to say that this version introduces […]

Taipei’s Metro system only began construction in 1988, but now has almost 90 stations and over 100km of track. All this comes at a price however, with Phase One of the system costing US$18 billion and Phase Two (currently under construction) estimated to cost US$13.8 billion upon completion. Have we been there? No. What we like: Nice diagrammatic representation – the stylised rivers are handled much better on this diagram than on the Tyne & […]
