The “Transit Maps” Blog is Three Today!
Wow! It seems like just yesterday that I made my first post on this blog, yet here we are three years down the road already! Thanks to each and every follower – over 23,000 on Tumblr*, 1,985 on Twitter, and 716 on my Facebook Page – I really couldn’t have lasted this long without your likes, retweets, reblogs, questions and submissions. A focus for the upcoming year will definitely be to be more responsive to questions […]
Submission – Washington, DC Metro Cross Stitch
Submitted by ghostof-electricity, who says: DC metro map cross stitch I made this summer. I moved away two weeks before the silver line opened so I chose to create the metro map pre-silver line, the way I remember it 🙂 Transit Maps says: Rectilinear transit diagrams lend themselves well to cross stitch, but this is one of the neater ones I’ve seen. Nice work!

Video: Hyperlapse of the Downtown Seattle Transit Tunnel
No map to be seen, but plenty of transit! Here’s a short Hyperlapse video that I made this week of peak-hour traffic in the transit tunnel underneath 3rd Avenue in Seattle, Washington. This is about 7 minutes of real time condensed into 30-odd seconds of high-speed footage. The tunnel is one of only two combined light rail/bus tunnels in the United States and the only one with stations: the other is the Mount Washington Transit Tunnel […]
Washington DC Metro Map Cocktail Menu
The cocktail menu from a now closed (and not much missed, judging by its Yelp reviews) Washington DC restaurant/cocktail bar. It’s a pretty lazy attempt at a very obvious motif, executed without a lot of panache… the best value is in the “activities prohibited” icons at the bottom of the page. Source: urbanbohemian/Flickr

Photo: Tactile Muni Metro Map, San Francisco
Maps in underground stations on the Muni light rail network in San Francisco have raised route designation letters and route lines, as well as braille labels for station names. Nice! I know that it’s entirely happenstance*, but I really appreciate the fact that the M, K, and T lines appear next to each other on the map, making an “MKT” for Market Street. *Historical aside: Muni streetcar letters were originally assigned alphabetically in the order […]
Photo: Tattoo based on H.C. Beck’s First Paris Métro Diagram
The inspiration for this tattoo (which looks real) is really quite obvious when you know what you’re looking for. This is H.C. Beck’s first unsolicited attempt at a Paris Metro diagram from around 1939, and has been reproduced quite faithfully (although without the station names). Source: zachhaschanged/Instagram
