Submitted by Jaap, who says: I’m a Dutch information designer and design school teacher. I would like to submit my map of the Amsterdam Metro and Train network for your review. Transit Maps says: Jaap actually sent me a version of this map quite a while ago, and I’m sorry to say that it’s been languishing in my inbox since then. Which is a bit of a crime, because I think this is an excellent, […]

Unofficial Maps

Jose sent me a link to this still-evolving project via Twitter the other day, and his post on Medium about it is well worth reading, even through the filter of Google Translate. He’s got a lot of great ideas, and it’s always fun seeing how other people approach codifying their design principles for a map. What really caught my eye was this GIF showing the evolution of Jose’s map, all the way from the initial […]

Unofficial Maps

Submitted by Moritz, who says: It’s me again, Moritz – this time with an unofficial redesign of the light rail and regional rail map of my hometown, Dortmund. The light rail network itself is based on a simple principle where the trunk routes form a triangle in the city centre, thus allowing to reach every station with no more than one change of trains at one of the three central intersecting points. To depict this […]

Unofficial Maps

Submitted by Kristoffer, who says: I’ve made a map of my hometown Copenhagen’s transit system as it will look from summer 2019, when the circle metro line opens after a ~10 year long construction phase. A regional rail line to Ringsted will open at the same time. There are two local train systems in Copenhagen, S trains and Metro, but the official maps for the two systems use quite different map styles. Once the circle […]

Submitted by Kostya, who says: I’d be happy if you reviewed my new piece, unofficial transit map of Ukrainian city of Sumy featuring: trolleybuses in the foreground and buses in the background, close to real topology, landmarks, city center map and other smaller features. I’m sorry about Cyrillics but I feel like it shouldn’t matter much. Looking forward to what you think and thank you! Transit Maps says: Hey everyone, it’s the first published submission […]

Video: Introduction to an Alternate Berlin Transit Map by Pasha Omelekhin

Unofficial Maps

All transit maps should have their own cool launch video! And this one certainly makes the map look very intriguing, with its more geographically faithful and organic layout. The distinctive Hundekopf (dog’s head) shape of the S41/S42 Berlin Ringbahn is certainly very apparent! The larger font size is also quite obvious, even at a distance.  The only minor quibble I have about this video is that it calls this map “THE new map”, contrasting that against “the […]

Submitted by Raül, who says: Hello, this is my third transit map that I create, but the first one that’s not a fantasy one (previously I did a Tallinn Metro Map and a Tram network for my town), so it’s a redesign of Metro Bilbao and suburban network. I would like to know your feedback about it, and I would also like you to publish it because I don’t think there are many circular maps […]

My Transit Maps, Prints Available, Unofficial Maps

Ever since I first designed it way back in 2012, I’ve tried to keep my popular alternative Boston MBTA rapid transit map updated as new stations opened and other changes to the network happened. However, with the opening of the Silver Line route to Chelsea (SL3) earlier this year, certain parts of my design just weren’t going to cut it anymore. Looking at the old version, it was also painfully obvious to me that I […]

Submitted by Kirill, who says: A few months ago I made a trolleybus routes map for my hometown Kemerovo. Map is considered to become an official map of Kemerovo trolleybus system soon. Full project on Behance: Transit Maps says: This is a very competent map that Kirill has designed, although I do feel that I’ve seen some of the elements used to create it before in this 2015 map of the tram network of Chelyabinsk […]

Submitted by Philip, who says: I put together a map showing a redesign of Melbourne’s rail network with the newly-announced Suburban Rail Loop (SRL). Given that this is the first radial railway proposed for Melbourne for many decades, I have built the rest of the map around a central straight line of the new Loop. More explanation and links to the map on Philip’s website. Transit Maps says: The recent announcement of this new underground railway […]
